American Conference on Diversity Research

Through periodic assessments and analysis of social and cultural issues, the American Conference on Diversity research focuses on issues of diversity and change in our society. If actions speak louder than words, actions and words together are powerful tools to create respect and understanding. We work to encourage a public discussion on key issues relating to our mission and inform legislative initiatives, reflecting an inclusive and diverse society.

QUALITY, RACE, ETHNICITY, HEALTH AND HEALTH CARE OUTCOMES AND THE ROLE OF BUSINESS

Over the past 15 years, researchers have established a robust body of evidence-based findings through their studies documenting racial and ethnic disparities in health status. IMMIGRATION: AN ISSUE FOR OUR TIMES

Given the changing growth of our population, issues involving immigration integration issues will be with us well into the future. Immigrants make up 19.9 percent of the population. According to the 2000 United State Census, over 41 percent of immigrants living in New Jersey arrived in the United States between 1990 and 2000.

EMPLOYERS, HEALTH PROVIDERS MEET TO ASSESS AND ADDRESS THEIR HEALTH DISPARITIES SCORECARD

Businesses need to address disparities in healthcare, not just as a social issue, but as an economic issue, Patrick Geraghty, senior vice president, service, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, told participants at the American Conference on Diversity's Healthcare Diversity Scorecard program. Geraghty, who also is immediate past chairman of the American Conference on Diversity, emphasized that differences in healthcare provisioning and outcomes impact employees' health as well as employers' direct and indirect costs, including productivity.

NEW JERSEY: A STATEWIDE VIEW OF DIVERSITY

As the most diverse state in the country, New Jersey faces unique opportunities and challenges to create inclusive communities, a productive workforce, a responsive educational system, bias-free institutions and a respectful society. To measure New Jersey residents' attitudes and behaviors relative to diversity issues in our highly diverse state, the Presenting Partners have commissioned the Bloustein Center for Survey Research to implement a statewide telephone survey of New Jersey residents.
